Our Story
December 2nd 2002 Nancy and Scott Durst purchased their 1850 dream farmhouse located on 13 acres in Buxton, Maine. This was also the same day Scott was leaving for a two year deployment to Iraq. We weren’t seriously looking to buy at that time but were in need of something to do on the morning before he left. When we saw this farm, we knew that it was just perfect! We both saw that by buying this farmhouse we had a future to look forward to and that it was almost an omen that Scott would return home safely. That first winter while Scott was deployed, I moved.

Trying to keep myself sane during this challenging time, I began visiting alpaca open farm days and it was truly “love at first sight”. Never realizing that pet quality geldings were so affordable, I started sending my husband photos of these cheery, soulful, wide-eyed animals that looked like cartoon characters. Thankfully, when Scott returned we fenced and prepared our barn. Starting with four geldings, we were instantly “hooked”. As our herd of non-breeding males increased, we soon realized that there was a need for one farm in the region to focus solely upon selling these amazing fiber males and helping first time buyers set up their farms.
Our boys have truly enhanced our lives and we wish to share these joyful experiences with others. We take pride in our farm and our animals and welcome your visit. Once you see our alpacas, you too will be “hooked”!
Our commitment to the alpacas:
- They will be sold only to caring individuals who can provide a clean, safe environment, free of toxic elements and with appropriate shelter, fencing, fresh water, second cut hay and supplemental nutritional needs as well as providing the required monthly and annual shots.
- We will not sell to individuals that are not educated in regard to alpaca needs.
- We will be assured that they will always participate in a minimal herd of four.
Our commitment to buyers:
- We will take the time necessary to properly educate customers on all aspects of caring for their alpacas, teaching them the details of routine care such as giving shots and trimming nails.
- We will help them with barn set up and fencing.
- We will provide ongoing support in caring for their new friends.
